No 15/30-minute interval data is currently exposed for either commodity.

Third-Party API Access

Unitil publishes no REST API or developer portal. 07

Limitations & Considerations

  • No public REST API or developer portal; OAuth-based access waits on Green Button CMD (in testing).
  • No sub-hourly (15/30-minute) interval data for electric or gas; electric daily data capped at a 90-day lookback.
  • Green Button DMD covers electric smart-meter accounts only — gas customers have no interval export.
  • Manual third-party data requests take 10-15 business days and require written customer authorization.
  • No published aggregator agreements; portal scraping with customer credentials is the current aggregator path.

Northern Utilities, Inc. (Unitil) Data Access FAQ

How do C&I customers bulk-export Unitil billing data?

The MyUnitil portal (myaccount.unitil.com) downloads up to 24 months of billed usage, billing history, or payment history as a single CSV — across all linked accounts at once. Open Bills & Payments or Billed Usage, scroll to the Download button, pick accounts and a date range, and the CSV downloads immediately.

Does Unitil support Green Button?

Download My Data is live for electric smart-meter customers: daily usage exported as NAESB ESPI XML from the Smart Meter tab with a 90-day lookback (Unitil is a listed Green Button Alliance DMD provider). Connect My Data is in testing under NH PUC Docket DE 25-025, with gas customer inclusion planned after electric.

How do competitive suppliers exchange data with Northern Utilities / Unitil?

Via ANSI X12 v4010 EDI after a 4-8 week certification process: register with the NH or Maine PUC, contact EL_SupplierServices@unitil.com, set up VAN or AS2 connectivity, and test 814 enrollment, 810 invoice, and 867 usage transactions. The 867-HU returns 12-24 months of hourly, daily, or monthly historical usage depending on meter capability.

Is interval gas data available from Northern Utilities?

No. Gas meters use wireless AMR delivering monthly billed usage only — no daily or sub-monthly gas data is exposed through the consumer portal. Gas accounts still get the 24-month CSV billing export, and gas Green Button support is planned as part of the CMD rollout.

How do building owners get tenant-level usage for benchmarking?

Through Unitil's HUD multifamily process: collect signed generic tenant data release forms, submit them with tenant account numbers to customer service at 1-888-301-7700, and receive monthly tenant-level usage in Excel with 12+ months of history. Unitil scores 3.0/4.0 for usability in the HUD Exchange database.

What does Nectar's roadmap support level mean for Unitil?

Unitil is on Nectar's roadmap — automated ingestion is planned but not yet productized. Today, Nectar works with MyUnitil CSV exports, Green Button XML files for electric accounts, and authorization-based requests, and will adopt Green Button Connect My Data when Unitil moves it to production.
