ENGIE Alternative | Nectar
Nectar provides transparent, technology-first utility data management without long-term service contracts. Get full control of your data with automated collection, auditable records, and flexible exports.

ENGIE Impact is a utility expense management, procurement, and sustainability advisory business, acquired by Arcadia in April 2026, and utility bill management sits inside a broader engagement rather than being sold as software. You hand over the work (collection, validation, bill audit, often decarbonization strategy alongside it), and a team of people delivers an outcome against a multi-year agreement.
For a large enterprise that would rather buy an outcome than operate a process, that is a legitimate model, and ENGIE Impact brings things no software vendor can: a global consulting bench that executes strategy rather than only reporting on it, energy procurement and supply advisory, and the ability to handle genuinely messy international portfolios where no automated collection route exists.
Nectar takes the opposite shape. Transparent SaaS pricing with no long-term lock-in, automated collection from more than 7,000 utility providers globally, a data completeness view you interrogate yourself rather than receiving as a report, and an audit trail linking every value to its source bill. You keep and control the data, which means switching consultants, reporting tools, or suppliers does not cost you your history.
Challenge
Long-term service contracts lock you into inflexible pricing and workflows.
Solution
Nectar offers transparent SaaS pricing with no long-term lock-in. You own and control your data.
Challenge
Managed service models obscure how your data is collected and processed.
Solution
Full transparency with a data completeness view, audit trail, and processing status for every bill.
Challenge
Switching providers means losing historical data and starting over.
Solution
Your data lives in Nectar. Switch energy providers, consultants, or reporting tools without losing a single data point.
The question to ask before signing a multi-year agreement
When collection is performed as a service, the operational knowledge and often the practical custody of the dataset concentrate with the vendor. The real switching cost at renewal is rarely the termination clause. It is the historical data and the audit trail behind it.
Ask any managed provider, in writing, exactly what you receive on exit and in what format: parsed line items or summary totals, bill images or references, and whether the completeness record travels with it. A vague answer to that question is a material risk rather than a procurement detail, and it is worth pricing before the contract rather than after.
Where Nectar fits
Choose ENGIE Impact if you want an accountable partner to run the program, including procurement strategy and bill payment, and you accept a multi-year agreement in exchange. Choose Nectar if you want to own the data layer outright: transparent pricing, no lock-in, automated collection, and an audit trail that stays yours when the vendor relationship ends.
Frequently asked questions
Does Nectar offer consulting or decarbonization strategy?
Procurement advisory comes through our partner network, brokers and procurement consultants in the Nectar Marketplace of Solutions, rather than from an in-house consulting bench. Decarbonization strategy consulting and hands-on program delivery at ENGIE Impact’s scale are not something we offer, and for some organizations that remains the deciding factor.
Does Nectar pay utility bills like ENGIE Impact does?
Yes. Nectar covers approvals, scheduling, reconciliation against the parsed bill, and a portfolio payment calendar, with payment executed by Nectar or through an integrated provider. What ENGIE Impact wraps around payment that we do not is a consulting engagement: supply strategy, decarbonization program delivery, and hands-on account management by their team.
What if we have no internal team to run software?
Nectar offers a managed service option on the same platform, where our team handles account connections, validation, and gap resolution while you keep full visibility through the completeness view. That is the middle path between operating it yourself and handing the whole program to a consultancy. You get the service without giving up the data or signing a multi-year engagement.
How quickly does a recurring billing error surface?
Nectar runs detection on every bill as it arrives and escalates only what is flagged, so a recurring demand-charge error or lapsed tax exemption shows up within a cycle. Analyst-led review catches the same errors when the review happens, which on a recurring charge can be several cycles of compounded cost.

Carbon accounting requires accurate utility data collection
Carbon accounting has 3 steps: data collection, emissions calculation, and data reporting. Error rates of 10% in data collection compound into worse error in the CDP report. Garbage in, garbage out.
