Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative Data Access Guide

Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative (GCEC) is a member-owned, not-for-profit rural electric cooperative serving roughly 95,500 accounts across Grayson and Collin counties in North Texas. As a cooperative outside ERCOT's competitive retail market, GCEC sets its own rates and delivers billing and usage data through the NISC SmartHub portal, with Green Button XML export and a smart-meter rollout enabling 15-minute interval data.

Billing Data Access

GCEC provides billing and account data through the NISC SmartHub web and mobile (MyGCEC) portal. Members view billing and payment history, download bill PDFs, and see usage graphs. There is no automated third-party billing program from the utility; third parties use customer-authorized requests or data platforms such as Nectar (docs.nectarclimate.com).

Interval Data & Smart Meters

GCEC is deploying Itron cellular AMI smart meters (40,000 over 5-7 years). For accounts with a smart meter, the NISC SmartHub Green Button Download My Data feature exports up to 14 months of interval usage as ESPI XML at 15-minute, hourly, daily, or monthly granularity. SmartHub also displays usage graphs and limited CSV export.

Meter Technology
Itron cellular Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI); deployment in progress
Electric Granularity
15-minute, hourly, daily, or monthly intervals (15-minute for accounts with Itron meters deployed)
Gas Granularity
Not applicable (GCEC does not provide gas service)

How to Download Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative Interval Data via Green Button

  1. 01Log into SmartHub at https://graysoncollin.smarthub.coop/
  2. 02Open My Usage or Usage Analysis

Green Button Access

Download My Data

GCEC supports Green Button Download My Data through NISC SmartHub. Members export up to 14 months of usage as NAESB ESPI Atom+XML, with 15-minute granularity for accounts with Itron smart meters.

Formats
XML (ESPI), ZIP
Available To
All members with smart meters (via SmartHub)

Connect My Data

Green Button Connect My Data (real-time authorized third-party access via OAuth) is not confirmed for GCEC. Members should contact GCEC at (903) 482-7100 to verify; data platforms such as Nectar (docs.nectarclimate.com) are the practical path for ongoing third-party access.

04

Third-Party API Access

GCEC and NISC do not publish an official third-party data API. The practical option for programmatic access is Nectar, which collects utility data with customer authorization and exposes it via REST API — see docs.nectarclimate.com. An undocumented, reverse-engineered SmartHub API exists but violates NISC terms and is not recommended.

Program
No official GCEC API; Nectar is the recommended path
Auth Method
Nectar API key (platform); customer authorization required
Rate Limits

How to Register as a Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative API Vendor

  1. 01Integrate with Nectar (see docs.nectarclimate.com)
  2. 02Send the customer a Nectar authorization link
  3. 03Customer grants Nectar access to their account
  4. 04Query billing and interval data via the Nectar REST API

05

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)

GCEC EDI support is not publicly documented and likely not applicable. As a non-ERCOT-jurisdictional distribution cooperative, GCEC is not subject to Texas SET EDI requirements (used by REPs and TDSPs in the competitive ERCOT market). Customer data flows through SmartHub, Green Button, and manual requests instead of EDI.

Supported Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative EDI Transaction Sets

867Monthly Usage / Meter Data (Texas SET 876)Usage data reporting in the ERCOT market (not used by GCEC directly)
814Enrollment / Application for ServiceService enrollment transactions in the ERCOT market (not used by GCEC directly)

How to Enroll in Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative EDI

  1. 01Contact GCEC at (903) 482-7100 to confirm whether any EDI is supported
  2. 02If supported, request a trading partner agreement and technical specs
  3. 03Exchange sender/receiver IDs and test before production

Rate Schedules & Tariff Analysis

GCEC's commercial pricing is simple and demand-driven. Small Commercial (under 50 kW) has an $80 base, $0.11490/kWh energy, and a demand charge only above 10 kW ($10/kW). Large Commercial (over 50 kW) has a $200 base, $0.10/kWh energy, and a $10/kW demand charge on all metered kW, with a 20% discount for schools. A monthly PCRF (~$0.01/kWh) is the only variable element and is the lever GCEC uses to pass through wholesale power cost changes.

  • No formal Share My Data / third-party authorization program
  • Green Button Connect My Data (CMD) status unconfirmed
  • EDI support not publicly documented and likely not applicable
  • No official GCEC/NISC public API for developers
  • Interval data limited to accounts with Itron smart meters deployed (rollout ongoing)
  • Reverse-engineered SmartHub API violates NISC terms and is unsupported

Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative Data Access FAQ

How does a commercial member get interval data from GCEC?

If the account has an Itron smart meter installed, log into SmartHub at graysoncollin.smarthub.coop, open My Usage, and use Green Button Download My Data to export up to 14 months of usage as ESPI XML at 15-minute, hourly, daily, or monthly granularity. Because the AMI rollout (40,000 meters over 5-7 years) is ongoing, interval availability depends on whether your meter has been upgraded.

Can a third party (ESCO, consultant) pull our GCEC data programmatically?

GCEC has no official public API. The recommended production path is Nectar: the member authorizes access through Nectar's connect flow, and the third party queries standardized billing and interval data via Nectar's REST API — see docs.nectarclimate.com. Alternatively, the member can submit a letter of authorization to GCEC at (903) 482-7100 for a manual data export.

What are GCEC's commercial electric rates?

GCEC publishes two commercial classes. Small Commercial (under 50 kW/month) has an $80 base charge, a demand charge of $0 for the first 10 kW and $10/kW above 10 kW, and a $0.11490/kWh energy charge. Large Commercial (over 50 kW/month, with a 20% school discount) has a $200 base charge, a $10/kW demand charge on all metered kW, and a $0.10/kWh energy charge. A monthly Power Cost Recovery Factor (PCRF) of about $0.01/kWh also applies.

Is GCEC part of the competitive Texas (ERCOT) retail market?

No. GCEC is a member-owned distribution cooperative outside ERCOT's competitive retail choice area, so members cannot shop for a Retail Electric Provider. GCEC sets its own rates as a not-for-profit and is not served by Smart Meter Texas, which only covers ERCOT TDSPs like Oncor and CenterPoint.

How can a large commercial customer lower its GCEC bill?

On the Large Commercial rate the $10/kW demand charge applies to all metered demand, so reducing peak kW is the primary lever. Use SmartHub interval data to identify and stagger peak loads, improve load factor, and (for schools) confirm the 20% discount is applied. Solar and energy efficiency can also reduce both energy and demand components.
