Current Rate Schedules

ENSTAR rates have four parts: a flat Customer Charge by meter size (G1-G4), a volumetric Service Charge/Base, the Regulatory Cost Charge (RCC, 0.130% of total bill), and the Supplier Gas Cost (GCA). The figures below are verified from ENSTAR's published rates page, effective July 1, 2025. C&I customers fall under G2, G3, and G4 depending on meter capacity. The GCA of $1.01091/CCF applies to all classes and is adjusted each July.

Rate Recommendations by Use Case

🏢

Mid-size commercial building (office/retail)

Commercial accounts on a G2 meter pay a modest fixed charge plus volumetric base and GCA.

Recommended:
G2 — Commercial

G2 balances a low fixed charge ($43.75) against a moderate base rate for typical commercial heating loads.

Tips:
  • Confirm meter sizing matches actual load
  • Use MyENSTAR PDF bills to track monthly CCF trends
  • Budget for the July GCA reset
Est. monthly: Varies with CCF; $43.75 fixed + ~$1.13/CCF combined base+GCA
🏬

Large commercial / multi-tenant facility

Larger commercial loads on a G3 meter trade a higher fixed charge for a slightly lower base rate.

Recommended:
G3 — Large Commercial

G3's $138 fixed charge is offset by a lower $0.11642/CCF base; worthwhile only at sustained higher volumes.

Tips:
  • Run a breakeven on fixed vs. volumetric vs. G2
  • Compile 12 months of CCF before requesting a class change
  • Contact Customer Service for historical usage
Est. monthly: Varies; $138 fixed + ~$1.127/CCF combined base+GCA
🏭

High-volume industrial load

Industrial users with large, steady gas demand benefit from the G4 class's low per-CCF base.

Recommended:
G4 — Industrial / Largest Meter

G4's $0.08108/CCF base is the lowest available, offsetting its $662.75 fixed charge at high throughput.

Tips:
  • Only choose G4 when sustained volume justifies the high fixed charge
  • Pursue efficiency to cut the dominant GCA volumetric cost
  • Engage ENSTAR Business Development for any custom data needs
Est. monthly: Varies; $662.75 fixed + ~$1.092/CCF combined base+GCA

Historical Rate Trends

ENSTAR filed a general rate case with the RCA on May 2, 2025, raising the residential G1 Customer Charge from $16.25 to $20.00 and base rates upward. An interim increase of roughly 5.00% took effect on billings beginning July 1, 2025. The current published rates reflect these effective-July-2025 figures.

July 1, 2025

Interim rate increase from the May 2025 RCA rate case; G1 Customer Charge raised from $16.25 to $20.00 and base rates increased.

+5.0%

Overall trend: Increasing — driven by a 2025 general rate case and rising Cook Inlet gas supply costs reflected in the annually-adjusted GCA.

Next expected change: GCA is adjusted annually each July; the 2025 rate case may produce further changes pending final RCA approval.

Cost Optimization Strategies

Because ENSTAR gas billing is volumetric with no demand charges, C&I cost control centers on consumption reduction and correct meter-class assignment. The GCA pass-through is the dominant variable cost and is the same across classes.

Verify correct meter/rate class

For: All C&I gas accounts

Varies — avoids overpaying fixed charges on under-utilized large meters

Confirm the account is on the lowest-cost class for its actual load. Higher classes (G3/G4) carry larger fixed Customer Charges but lower per-CCF base rates, which only pay off at high volumes.

Reduce winter peak consumption

For: Commercial and industrial heating loads

Proportional to CCF reduction; GCA alone is ~$1.01/CCF

Improve building envelope, tune heating systems, and add controls to cut CCF usage, directly lowering both base and GCA volumetric charges.

Track the annual July GCA adjustment

For: All C&I accounts

Improves budgeting accuracy

Budget for the annual GCA reset each July, which is the largest swing factor in gas cost, and time discretionary usage accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ENSTAR provide interval or hourly gas usage data for commercial accounts?

No. ENSTAR uses Itron AMR meters that capture only monthly billing reads. No 15-minute, 30-minute, or hourly interval data is available to any customer or third party. C&I energy analysis must rely on monthly CCF from billing records.

How can an energy consultant access our company's ENSTAR billing data?

Have the account holder complete the Account Holder Authorization to Third Party form (available in Customer Resources) specifying the consultant and scope. Submit it to ENSTAR by online form, mail, fax (907-334-7612), or in person. The consultant can then register for MyENSTAR access or request records from Customer Service.

Which rate class applies to a commercial or industrial gas account?

Class is assigned by meter size: G2 and G3 cover commercial loads and G4 covers the largest industrial loads. Higher classes carry larger fixed Customer Charges but lower per-CCF base rates, so the best class depends on your volume.

Does ENSTAR support EDI or a public API for billing integration?

No. There is no documented EDI program and no public API or developer portal. Large enterprise customers can contact ENSTAR Business Development (907-277-5551) to discuss potential custom bulk-export or batch-delivery arrangements on a case-by-case basis.

How often do ENSTAR gas rates change?

The Supplier Gas Cost (GCA) is adjusted annually each July. Base rates and customer charges change through RCA rate cases — most recently the May 2025 case, which produced an interim ~5% increase effective July 1, 2025.
